Get your smile from "good" to "camera ready"
Do you feel like you need smile improvement treatments? Maybe your teeth are not aligned as they should be. Maybe you would like your teeth to be pearly white. Or maybe you have a tooth that is damaged or missing. Whatever your situation is, the right smile improvement treatment will get you that thousand-watt smile you have always wanted. Here are popular treatments that can improve your teeth.
Five popular smile improvement treatments
1. Orthodontic treatments
The most common way to correct misaligned teeth is with the use of orthodontics. After diagnosing the actual cause of misalignment, an orthodontist might recommend braces, retainers, jaw splints or other suitable orthodontic treatments.
Right now, the most popular orthodontic devices are invisible braces. These allow people to deal with teeth alignment issues discreetly.
2. Dental caps
Also known as crowns, dental caps are used to repair stained or badly-damaged teeth. If a tooth is chipped, cracked, worn down or affected by cavities, then a crown is the treatment of choice.
The process of putting in a crown is simple: Once the dentist has cleaned and prepared the damaged tooth, they fit a crown over it. The crown encases the tooth and protects it from further damage.
Dental cap installation is considered both a restorative and cosmetic procedure, as it restores the teeth while improving their appearance. Crowns are often combined with bridges and dentures when multiple teeth need to be replaced.
3. Dental implants
Implants are a permanent way to replace missing teeth. They not only improve a person's smile, they improve oral health by making it easier to chew and to clean the teeth. The process of getting implants takes months from start to finish. But once the dental implants are placed, they last just as long as healthy natural teeth.
Dental implants are fitted by first installing a small screw in the jaw. Its role is to act as the root of the artificial tooth. Later, a titanium or zirconium connector is attached to the "root." The connector is known as an abutment. Finally, a crown is fitted onto the abutment.
4. Veneers
Veneers are porcelain or plastic shells that are custom-made to fit onto the front of the teeth. They are a cosmetic treatment used to improve the shape, color or alignment of a person's teeth. Fitting veneers is a simple process. First, the dentist makes a mold of the teeth that need veneers. Next, the mold is used to fabricate the veneers. Finally, the veneers are fabricated and bonded onto the teeth with tooth cement.
5. Teeth whitening
Teeth whitening is a non-invasive way to remove stains from the teeth. The treatment can be done by a dentist or at home, but for guaranteed results, the procedure is best done by a dental professional.
The process simply involves using bleaching agents like hydrogen peroxide gel onto the teeth and activating it with ultraviolet light. The procedure is done in three sessions that take 30 to 90 minutes each.
Bleaching the teeth will always work with surface stains but may not always work on stains that penetrate the enamel. Also, teeth whitening does not protect the teeth from future staining.
