How to Whiten Your Teeth

There are many ways to whiten your teeth. Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you and thus everyone desires to have whiter teeth and a more radiant smile. When making a first impression, most people tend to worry about having discolored, aged or crooked teeth, which can send an impression that you do not really care about your appearance.

Whitening your teeth will not only make you more appealing but will also improve your self-confidence. If you want to whiten your teeth, then you should know there are several options you can try. This article discusses how patients can whiten their teeth.

5 ways to whiten your teeth

1. Baking Soda

Baking soda can be used to whiten teeth because it is a mild abrasive that helps scrub stains from teeth. It has free radicals which penetrate the enamel and scrub the stains clean. To whiten teeth using baking soda, mix half a teaspoon of baking soda with some drops of water or lemon. Next, spread the paste over the teeth using a toothbrush or a finger. The mixture should be allowed to sit on the teeth for about two minutes. Finally, patients should thoroughly rinse the baking soda out of the mouth using water. The procedure can be repeated every other day for best results.

2. Baking Soda with hydrogen peroxide

A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda can be used to whiten teeth. To do this, one should mix a teaspoon of baking soda with a half teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide (preferably less than 1.5 percent concentration) to make a thick paste. The resulting paste can be used to whiten teeth by allowing it to sit on the teeth for one to two minutes, and then rinsing it off with water.

3. Whitening strips

Teeth whitening strips are another great way to whiten teeth. The whitening strips are coated with a peroxide gel that bleaches teeth and makes them look whiter. To use the strips, one should remove them from the package, and then apply one strip to the top set of teeth and the other to the bottom set. The strips should be left on for about 30 minutes. Note that, some strips may dissolve, while others may need to be removed.

4. Strawberries

Strawberries contain malic acid (a powerful agent which can remove stains from teeth). To whiten teeth using strawberries, patients should crush up berries into a paste, spread it on the teeth, and then allow it to sit for five minutes. The paste can then be rinsed or brushed off leaving a brighter tooth surface.

5. Professional teeth whitening

Professional teeth whitening is a safe, fast and effective option which removes stains both below and on teeth surfaces. Patients can see results immediately and some treatments usually take less than an hour.
